Mark Driscoll on American (Western) Idolatry

Here's a truly challenging critique on idolatry in Western culture. Paul had also things to say about idolatry- that it was the same as covetousness was certainly one of them. What, surely not? It also includes anything we give more honour to than Christ, be they football teams, musicians (Christian or not), leaders, pet doctrines, our own church –self. The list is endless. Were you convicted? I was for sure.

  1. Idols are every where, even when you walk down high street!

  2. How true it is: are we as a Church also adulterous as well as idolatrous?

  3. Of course you are right Jimmy. Read the letters of Jesus to the churches in Revelation and you will see how unhappy he was with them. We think we are rich and have aquired wealth when in reality (God's reality)' you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
    (Rev 3)
The prophets also spoke out stronly against idolatry and spiritual adultery.May God keep us close to Christ.

  4. What about the idolatry of the Christian idol---the body of "jesus" brutally murdered on a cross.
Anyone who thinks that idol is "good news" is seriously deluded.
Driscoll IS an idolator of the "first" order. A snake-oil salesman from the long tradition of PT Barnum and the fact that there are hundreds of suckers born every minute.
